|
|
I am very much a novice when it comes to sat nav, but I was just wondering if any of you could help me.
I want to buy a sat nav device for my car but have not got a clue which is the best one to buy.
My requirements are:
1, Budget - Max £150
2, I don't quite understand how the updating of the maps happens or even if they do update for new roads etc., but I would like one which you could update without having to buy a new SD card.
3, Very easy to follow instructions
Thanks for any help that you all provide |

This is a Tom Tom dedicated forum. Doubt that you will get any TT for your budget - so are looking for other makes.
All sat nav maps will be out of date by at least 6 months when you buy the unit because of time it takes to get latest info. With all commercial units you have to buy updated maps - many, including Tom Tom, allow you to download the updates (but beware because sometimes the original SD card is not big enough for the new map).
Tom Tom is generally considered to be the most intuitive system and therefore the easiest to pick up.
Stretch you budget to the new TT One is probably the best answer.
Or try an i3, which is supposed to be very good for the money. _________________ Peter

Hah, hah, don't you just love forums sometimes....
I was about to get all uppity and say "why don't you ask in the Navman section of the forum? This part is for TomToms".... but then I saw you already had, and the moderators had locked those topics! You can't win!
Maybe post in there again, now you have specific models to ask about.

You can't use the camera database (or any other custom POIs) on the iCN330. _________________ Peter

That's pretty entry level price point. Lots of people here seem to like the little Garmin i3, they can be had for about £120 to £150.
If you could be convinced to spend another £100 you could get a Garmin or TomTom unit with a much bigger, touch screen.
The other option is to get a Smartphone like the T-Mobile MDA Compact II which is a mini PDA and buy TomTom to run on it. The phone is free on a £20/month contract from T-Mobile and TomTom Navigator 5 for Pocket PC costs about £135. _________________ Gone fishing! |
