I am the (un)happy user of a Navman 3000 sleeve to my HP iPAQ 5450, but it is a nitghtmare of test and tries, attach/detach of the sleeve and reset of the iPAQ at each startup. I have installet the Navman 3.1.6 driver for the iPAQ (many times), but still connecting the sleeve to the device gives a very unpredictable result. The entire device is hangig, the the "CF card in socket 2 is unknown" or the "Waiting for CSV sentence" message lasts for ever. Anyone out there with the same experiences or an updated driver??

Navman 3000 Sleeve version is 2.1.0R01264 BW A, Navman 2.0.0
iPAQ Rom version is 1.11.19 ENG of 24th May 2003

Thanks
Jon R

You do have the older 3000 sleeve which was prone to problems like this, esp with extended TTFF's, the newer 3450 sleeve (with ext ant socket) is much better. There were initially problems with the 3000/3450 sleeves on 5450 iPAQ's but AFAIK this was resolved.

I have heard that an eject the sleeve, soft reset, re-insert sleeve tends to help sometimes.

"...tents to help sometimes", yes. I always get started, finally. But the way from attaching the sleeve to have it operating is always very unpredictable and contains all the elements you mention. -and TTFF is not very bad, when I first come up the gear.

Tested now, fog and rainy weather. One week since last time I used the device. After some trials, re-attachments of the sleeve and resets, running OziExplorer, 55 secs from start of Ozi until "GPS fix ok" message.

55s is very respectible, most usually see a 3-4 min fix on the older 3000 sleeves.

Didn't I see somewhere in this forum that the TTFF problem was consierably improved from the 1.9 version to the 2.0, even though the 34xx sleeves first started with the 2.1 versions??

So my problem is not the TTFF, but to have the two devices operating together. The 3.1.6 Navman driver was obviously not enough.

No, the initial change came in at 2.1.2 but the biggest change was at 2.1.3. Are you running SmartST Pro ? Navman initially warned about using the Navman sleeves on the 54xx/55xx's but AFAIK these problems were addressed in 3.1.6 Serial driver. You may just have a faulty drive, or perhaps even a faulty connector on the sleeve or iPAQ.

I am running MemoryMap and OziExplorer, evaluating TomTom, but seems like I should stay with what I have, live with the problem and save money for a new 4400. ...or any recommendations for what I can do to let the devices be better friends??

I think probably do a bit of saving and change to the 4400, or Emtac.
