the other week i bought a global-sat sirf star III bc-337(cf card). i am using it with tom tom 3 on a hp ipaq 2215. the gps gets a lock on the position very quickly however, as soon as i start driving the instructions are up to 300 yards out - which means i am missing turnings as they are always late. i have contacted tom tom (who gave me no help at all) and the company i bought it from (who have also not helped). i have no idea if the problem is the gps, tom tom or even the pda. if anyone has any ideas at all on how to resolve this problem or even if you know what the reason for this delay in reading the signal is i would REALLY appreciate it.
someone suggested trying a trial version of another naviagtion software (to eliminate whether it's tom tom) but i am struggling to find one that is free to download so again if anyone knows where i can download one of them i would really appreciate it.
thanks

Sue,
I used to use exactly the same set up and I had that problem once when I made the incorrect selection when setting up the GPS receiver within TomTom.
Trouble is I can't remember which options I used
I have just looked up an old forum where this was discussed and these setting were suggested:
1. Go to GPS setup
2. uncheck square that selects device.
3. set GPS to NMEA 0183v2 4800
4. set next box down to your CF receiver
5. check box and away you go.
I'm sure I tried this and it worked fine but looking at my previous posts I used to use TomTom Navigator GPS and CF_CARD GENERIC (I believe Com3 can be used instead of CF_CARD GENERIC).
Hope this helps

hi bob
thanks so much for your reply - i tried the settings you said and it works! i'm so pleased as i've spent so long trying to sort it out. am a bit annoyed with global sat and the company i bought it off as they said to set it to sirf 4800 - which i now know (thanks to you!) is the wrong setting. anyway, once again, thank you so much for your help - you're a lifesaver
