Had my 700 just over a year and the speaker has just started to sound all distorted. I have been in touch with tom tom and they say send it back for a repair but I am tempted to have a go at fitting a new speaker myself
what do you think ?
All the time i have had the 700 it is used with the volume on full as thats the only way i can hear the directions
cheers

Don't you have a TWO year guarantee?
Check paragraph 6c in the lic_eng.txt file inside the Licenses folder on your TomTom.
Mine says:
Quote: | TomTom warrants to you that the Hardware will be free from defects in workmanship and materials for a period that is
the shorter of (a) two (2) years from the date that the Hardware was first purchased by you and (b) the period ending upon your
breach of any term of the EULA (“Warranty Period”). During the Warranty Period the Hardware will be repaired or replaced
at TomTom’s option (“Limited Warranty”), without charge to you for either part or labor. |

There is bloody huge capacitor on the audio line, it is very likely than one of legs got disconnected, that's why you are getting distorted sound - not enough current to drive the speaker. |

I don't usually have my GO 700 on full blast -- it's using the auto volume feature. However, given that I'm usually driving at highway speeds, it's usually working at full volume, too. I don't think TomTom would set their highest volume setting so high that it can blow their speaker (which is a very good speaker, by the way). _________________ Chris
