I have a TT ONE and it's working fine now I have a 2GB SD card for it. I bought the MOWE CDs and installed the Spanish map for our holiday there earlier this Summer and it was good -- not fully up to date but there's so much road development going on there it's not surprising (wish the same could be said for UK!).

However, I now want to add the Italy map. I can install the files using the setup program, but I'm not prompted for an activation code at any time. Italy does not appear on the list of maps on the TT ONE and the files that have been copied there are deleted by TT ONE on startup.

So this is a very simple/silly question. How do I get the TT ONE to prompt me to enter the activation code? I'm sure I'm missing something very obvious!

thanks for your help

If you've used the activation code for one map off the CD that is all you need.
Any other maps off THE SAME CD will not need activating separately.

Basically you've activated the CD.

thanks, thebinman. That's good to know.

But how come my map goes onto the TT ONE but is not visible in the "switch map" option and there are almost no files in the Italy-map directory? I even tried installing the maps to a PC-based directory and copying them over to my TT ONE manually but the same thing happened.

Have you tried a Reset?

How many files do you see?
You should see a similar set of files (but different sizes) as the Spain map.

Do you see files like cname.dat, cnodes.dat, faces.dat, mapinfo.dat, italia.mid, italia.pna, etc?

OK, I've now had time to sit down and look at this again. This is what I've tried:

1. reset
2. installed Italia_plus. "Installation complete"
3. reset again
4. went to "switch maps" -- Italy not there
5. reset again
6. installed Italia_plus again. "Installation complete"
7. checked the files on TTONE using explorer before quitting the TT installer. The list of files in Italia_Plus-Map is:

cline.dat, cname.dat, cnode.dat, faces.dat, italia_plus-3275b08f.mac, italia_plus.mid, italia_plus.pna, mapinfo.dat, poi.dat, tmccodes.dat, traffic.dat

8. quit TT installer. TTONE auto restarted
9. before doing anything else, removed the USB wire then replaced it to put TTONE into drive mode again
10. checked the files on TTONE using explorer. The list of files now is:

italia_plus-3275b08f.mac, poi.dat, setup.dat

11. removed USB wire and allowed TTONE to start up
12. as expected, "Switch maps" did not show Italia.

What's going on? Why are these files being deleted? Is there a control file on the TTONE that tells it what country maps are installed? I presume there must be, and that if Italia_Plus is not in it then it wipes the directory. And where does the "setup.dat" file come from if it's not put there by the map install routine? Is this a TTONE problem, a Maps of Western Europe problem, or something else? Is it worth reinstalling the TTONE software from scratch, and what will I lose if I do this?

Help!

The activation code is stored in the internal flash of the ONE, that's why you don't get asked to re-enter it.

Are you running 6.14 by any chance? That one had an issue with multiple maps.

Are you running 6.14 by any chance? That one had an issue with multiple maps.

The version numbers I have:

- App 5.450 (5652/060328)
- OS 1011
- GPS v1.21
- Boot 4.28
- Map 'Great_Britain-Map' v605
- Map 'Iberia_Plus-Map' v632

If 6.14 had an issue with multiple maps, was there a fix available? Should I, for example, delete the Iberia map and start from scratch with the MOWE CDs?

I am tempted -- and my wife suggests -- to just send the whole thing back to TomTom and start again!! There's clearly a bug somewhere.

6.15 (latest) is meant to have sorted a few problems out and I notice you have bootloader 4.28. The latest is 4.29.

Try using TThome to update to 6.15 and see if that sorts it.

OK, I located TThome and installed it. I then used that to install a new version of the system. My versions are now:

- App 6.15 (7120/060801)
- OS 1222
- GPS v1.21
- Boot 4.28

(note that the Boot version was not incremented).

Following that, I installed the map again several times. There was absolutely no change to the behaviour of this, ie. once the TTONE booted up the files in the Italia_Plus-Map directory were whittled down to:

italia_plus-3275b08f.mac, poi.dat

(note no setup.dat this time?).

So I'm at a loss once more. I guess I'll have to try raising it on the TomTom website and hope they can help. Reasonable next step?

Peter

I submitted a question on the TomTom website last Friday evening. There has been absolutely no update by TomTom support staff since then.

Is this the normal low quality of service we should expect from TomTom? I'm not impressed. I've threatened to return my TTONE to the retailer as it's clearly not fit for purpose.

Can you please reformat the card, and then only install the application and the italian map?

Well I might be able to, but then it's possible that I wouldn't be able to install the Spanish map. Do you think there's something in the TTONE that allows you to only have 1 non-UK map installed at a time?

No, unless you have a very weird version of TTHome.

I said you should install only the Italy map, not the UK map, and not the Spain map.

No risk no fun. Your alternative is to send the device to TomTom for a replacement, isn't it?

Since you have the MOWE CD's, you will always be able to re-install the Iberia Plus map. Don't worry about that.

Format the SD card, install the Italy map and the 6.15 app. Then check if the map is recognized. This is teh list of files you need to find in the map folder:
cline.dat, cname.dat, cnode.dat, faces.dat, italia_plus-3275b08f.mac, italia_plus.mid, italia_plus.pna, mapinfo.dat, poi.dat, tmccodes.dat, traffic.dat

If that works, then install UK map and Iberia map. Should work.
