network problem

Ok I know this is a GPS forum but I have a problem with my phone connection on my ipaq I'm using a vodafone pay as you go card, the PDA has automaticly detected my network but for some reason keeps becoming unavailable and I have to do soft reset sometimes to re enter my pin and get the network back this is anoying because people ringing me get "this persons phone is unavailable"
The card is a card I have had for some time the ipaq is the third phone it has been in and the only one where I've had this problem Phew!
My question is has anyone else had this sort of problem with an ipaq and how did they manage to sort it.
