Anyone had any success after returning P550?

I have had my P550 for 3 weeks now and have been wrestling getting tomtom 5.21 to run properly. I have followed all advice in various threads i.e. resetting device using winfast navigator, running visual gps before switching on tomtom. From my home position I get a fix usually within 2 mins but away from home it can take up to 20 mins. I contacted Handtec and they told me to contact Mitac, Mitac checked up the serial number and said it had been manufactured before August 2006 so it needs to be sent back for alignment.
Has anyone had their units back and noticed any improvements?
