I have the Navman ICN 520 and today went on my first journey with it from Swindon (M4) to Gatwick airport to pick a family member up.

According to the database, when installing it, I should set the warning at 150ft but changed it to 300ft but when on the M25 as I was approaching cameras the alert was actually going off just as I past it!! Could see the camera coming up on the route but thought it would alert me 300ft from the camera.

How does this work?

Any ideas appreciated Exclamation

2 possible causes for this are:

1. A slow read/write SD card.

2. The "actual reported position is incorrect" that is why you are getting a incorrect warning.
If this is the cause then it probably happens because of the time it takes for the person/persons reporting the site to input the data into their TT etc.
Although this should have been spotted when being verified.

Are the normal warning Ok?
If not then the most likeliest cause is option No1.

Personally I have my settings set at 300yds for a 30mph zone, 400yds for 40mph zone, 500yds for 50mph etc, etc.
This gives me plenty of time to slow down safely with regards to vehicles that may be behind me, although it does get a little frustrating at times when it reports a camera that is around the corner, (but I can live with that).

Even at set to 300 FEET you will be vitrually on top of the camera at 70 MPH when you get the warning, try something more like 900 or even 1500 in order to have adequate warning.
I use settings of just over 1000 YARDS on one of my other systems, so in your case anything upto 3000 FEET should be considered for motorway speeds - Mike

Ok thanks, will give higher settings a go and see if makes a diff.

I presume town driving at 40mph with these higher settings will give me even more ample warning?

Yes, but remember as I said before, you may get notifications of cameras around corners, because the system is measuring the distance in a straight line (as the crow fly's).
At least that's the case when not being use on a pre-planned journey.
