I was wondering how it all works. Does the mobile phone have to be on constantly and if so what are the costs of running your mobile phone between journeys?

With GPRS you are charged per MB (or part MB) that your unit downloads, the time duration you remain connected to GPRS is not an issue.
Beware of the cost though some service providers charge very high prices for GPRS £3 per MB is not unheard off, if you are thinking of using it make sure you have a monitor package loaded on the phone to track how many MB's / KB's of data, and therefore cost, you don't want to get clobbered with a £100 "extra" charge on your monthly bill (been their and got the tee-shirt ) - Mike

Cheers hat makes sense, so on top of the phone bill you have to pay tomtom for the privillage.
The reason i ask is that i have just bought a Garmin vu 310 and the fm receiver will not work ing the car, i was looking to exchangeto a tt one, but im unsure that i will be able to connect to tt aeril when ever they get around to it.

Really stuck as what to do love the fact you can put it in your pocket tt 510- to large..
