TomTom RIDER - Locked/Frozen/Dead!

Hi. Newbie member here and total newbie to the wonderful workd of GPS. Have trawled the forums for an answer to this without finding one, so apologies if you've been here before!

During charging with the household charger, the unit began to display a "splash screen" showing the TomTom RIDER on a yellow/orange panel against a white background. After several hours charging, this display remained unchanged and the unit appeared unresponsive and would not even turn off.

Following the instructions in the manual and from the TomTom website I pressed the reset button, but the unit simply returns to the splash screen described above. I have repeated this procedure several times and on certain ocassions the unit requests (by means of icons) the removal and re-insertion of the SD card. This is also uneffective.

I've left it on and let the battery completely discharge and then charged it up again - still no joy.

I mailed TT last week but have yet to hear back from them..from what I've read this isn't unusual! Is it worth giving them a ring on their supremely expensive helpline, or are they not much help at all?

Any ideas? HELP!

hi ya have you downloade Tom Tom home and tryed the update ?
does your rider ask you connect to your computer?
did you use a paper clip to reset your rider (just under the sd card slot) press and hold the button in for 4 to 10 sec's
to turn on and off your rider fill for a click has you press the button on side
charge time is only 2hrs max
have you backed up your rider and do you have a card reader to restore your backup out side the rider ?
then see if a reset works

OK, got it going again!

Downloaded the update via TomTom Home and installed but still wouldn't work.

I then deleted the application off the SD Card and then reinstalled the updated version back on there and it fired straight up.

Thanks for the advice, what a great forum..been on here less than 24 hours and already learnt loads and got the Speedcam Database installed now too!
