I would really appreciate some advice and opinions on whether i should spend some hard earned cash on TTN2 with Bluetooth or CoPilot Live also with Bluetooth based on the following.

1. I have a Ipaq 2210
2. I would like the Safety Camera POI stuff (does CoPilot only
warn you 3 miles in advance)
3. I will also buy the Europe Road maps add on, will TTN2 allow you to
navigate across country borders without loading separate maps?
For example could i set a route from Calais to Cologne
4. Are there any performance differences between the respective BT
receivers
5. Any other advice gratefully received

Brilliant site by the way, Thumbs Up

CoPilot will warn you at less of a distance, but currently the cameras are out of date with no easy way of upgrading them at present (this will change in the next release).

TTN2 will not allow you to navigate across country borders, you have to close and re-open the corresponding map.

BT performance, yes, the Emtac and the Holux GR-230 are better at bringing in signal compared to other BT GPS Receivers. The Holux has been delayed slightly, but only by a couple of weeks hopefully.

Thanks Dave, much appriciated advice. if I brought CoPilot now would I be able to upgrade the software FOC when a later version came out that supported your Saftey Camera overlays?

On a seperate issue, has anyone managed to integrate the audio output from their PPC into their car Audio System so that Voice Directions mute the car audio. I realise, of course that the car audio system has to have a mute or "dipped" input in the first place but i wonder how easy it would be to get the correct connection information from your local dealer??

Thanks again :D

It won't be a FOC upgrade, ALK usually charge in the region of around £100 to upgrade to the next release.

I have a similar question; I intend to get an Emtac BT receiver to go with my ipaq2210. I only need UK maps at this stage, but would like to use the safety camera database, and keep it as up to date as possible.

Both CoPilot and TT2 have excellent reviews - the main differences seem to be;

CoPilot:
Pro: offers, (or will offer), live traffic updates (livewire?)
Pro: postcode lookup works well
Con: safety camera database is not yet updateable
Con: no 3D display

TT2:
Pro: safety camera database user-updateable
Pro: 3D display
Con: no live traffic updates
Con: no proper postcode lookup

If I ignore the safety camera database issue for now, assuming the next version will fix the issue - is CoPilot clearly better than TT2? Or am I missing something, as TT2 seems to be much more popular?

Thanks for such an excellent site. The information is superb, and easy to access. Imagine if all sites could be this way....

Peter

CoPilot doesn't actually offer LiveWire, it offers Live features, but this doesn't yet include traffic updates. You can run Pocket LiveWire as a standalone application using GPRS but it doesn't use GPS you have to enter your destination and departures and it will then give you information on roads between the two. We will have a review within the next week on LiveWire.

PostCode lookups on CoPilot work, from the point of view it saves you entering the town/city. That's all it does, you then enter the road to bring it down to street level. There is no 3D display though which is a definite con.

With TTN2 you can also use Pocket LiveWire with this also just running in the background. You do have to pay a monthly subscription cost to TeamWarrior who operate LiveWire though.

The other main difference which you have left out is the price difference.

Glad you like the site Peter! Thumbs Up

Just an update on my original question in this post, Tomtom or CoPilot, on the basis of what i have read on this site i decided to go for Tomtom. The main deciding factor in the decision was the Speed Camera overlay facility.

After using TTN2 for a few days now, i can say that i dont regret my decision at all, the User Interface is excellent, the 3D view is the Dogs B's and running Checkpoint tpgether with the Pocket GPS database to warn of the upcomming speed, oops, i mean safety cameras is a massive bonus.

All in all, well pleased Exclamation

And thanks to everyone involved with this site Thumbs Up
