Anyone have any experience with 4GB SD cards. I just purchased a Transcend 4GB SD card and although my iPaq 4355 sees all of it fine I have some problems with disappearing and corrupted files.

I've emailed back and forth with Transcend a few times and their "official" postion is that the card is not compatible with most iPaqs.

Most of what I have read is that there is no reason WM2003 iPaqs won't support 4GB so long as they are formatted in FAT32.

Any recommendations?

I have an AData My Flash 4GB 150x SD card and it works without issue in my HP5550 and performs as well as my Panasonic 1GB cards.

I have the same card, excellent performance and reliability so far and these cards are so cheap now.

I have the same Adata card (ebay special) and yes it was cheap but the 150X claim is absolute tosh. Its way, way slower than my two year old 10Mb/s Panasonic cards (tested using SiSoft Sandara 2006 and in real life use). Maybe I ended up with a fake Adata??

I do love it though - having that much storage allows me to fill the card with maps, films, music and books.

On the whole it has been reliable but it did loose all the contents of my films and podcasts folder the other day which is a bit of a mystery.

I reformatted the card and that seem to help. I also used SKTools to setup my iPaq for "stability' and that seemed to help. I am also backing up the card much more often.

I also benchmarked it with Pocket Mechanic. Read = 5.9 MB/s and write= 0.6 MB/s.

I have just benchmarked my A Data 4Gb card and the read speed is 12.7MB/s and the write speed is 9.5MB/s which is certainly not 150x.

My Panasonic 1GB card will read at 9MB/s and write at 3MB/s.

I believe that the read and write speeds of PDAs are well below the card speeds and that is the limiting factor in real life situations.

I used Atto Technology Windows Disk Benchmark which I originally used for testing SCSI Raid as you can control parameters such as file size, the I/O and queue depth which helps you test the disk performance with/without the system cache and buffering.

I have had it so long I cannot remember if it was free or part of a package.

When you are using a card reader, make sure it is a USB2 or other high speed connection, USB (1) is limited to around 1MB/s whilst USB2 will run up to 40MB/s due to high overheads.

I think that some devices need to have the SD card formatted as FAT rather than FAT32. Unless things have changed, the maximum size of a FAT partition is 2GB.

Can anyone throw any light on this technical issue, along with the consequences?
