I waited months for the Go 510 to be released then when it arrived:

The bluetooth broke up repeatedly and I sounded like Norman Collier on the phone

Sattelite locks took up to 10 mins in my Mondeo with heated screen. (My Garmin i3 takes a minute and my TT5 on a pda in a thinknavi mount takes 0-30 secs, same car, same location)

The battery lasted 3 hours max

It refused to work at all after 4 days

After reading lots more tales of woe on these forums, I decided that it was dodgy design or QC and sent it back for a refund.

What do I buy instead? I need bluetoooth hands free, speed cameras and I must admit I like the tom tom interface and the way it works in general. I'd also like to be able to input my own POI's

Does the Go 500 work OK in a Mondeo?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I had the same problem with mine (6 days, and the replacement dead on arrival)
I liked it a lot, don't like titchy screens, if anyone gives you any hot tips can you share 'em with me, otherwise will wait for the bomb-proof version.

I didn't go with a Garmin because I liked everything about the 510 and I prefer the tomtom interface. I got a second 510 which by and large has been great and droopiness aside, is A1

Buy a Mitac Mio C510E for £240. With a £20 1Gb SD card you have full street level EU mapping, MP3/JPG, hands-free. I bought one last week and it has a lot of bang per buck.

Is it possible that you had an early model and perhaps TomTom has fixed the problems?
