hello

so i have the new street pilot i3 bought in the UK with the maps pre-installed inside the unit, a memory card was not included. I am in the process of buying metroguide canada and a blank memory card with the intention of using my i3 in canada.

my question is this... when i get the canadian maps onto the memory card and insert it into my i3, how will i choose between using the UK maps inside the unit and the canadian maps on the memory card? Will the memory card take priority over the UK maps inside the unit? or is there an option in settings where you can choose between maps?

thanks for any help!

The streetpilot selects automatically the map for each area. If you have two maps installed you can navigate from one map to the other by the the road included on the base map. When you get into an area with detailed maps available on the device, the streetpilot switches during navigation automatically onto the detailed map and recalculates the route.

so basically what your saying is once the satelite has found your current location... the street pilot will select the correct map from the unit or memory card automatically? Question

You should be aware that you can't navigate(ie you can see where you are on the map but you can't plan a route) with metroguide if you load it with the Mapsource program although it can be done using tp software
ie img2gps. It also treats roundabouts as junctions but that shouldn't be a problem in Canada(very few roundabouts i have heard)

i heard that you can autoroute with metroguide canada... its in another thread somewhere. they say that its one of the only metroguides where you can auto route and get directions.

but to the point... no one seems to be answering my question! hehe

i just want to know whether when i turn on my street pilot in canada with some metro guide canadian maps on the memory card and uk maps stored internally it will automatically select the canadian maps based on my location?

also can someone confirm that you can actually auto route with metro guide canada V4

thanks

Canada may be different but even if it isn't it can still be used on the i3 and can be made to autoroute and can be indexed as long as you don't use the Mapsource program. You need img2gps (freeware) and a transflash card reader or transflash adapter and card reader

If you need any help pm me

sorry. I didn't answer all your question.

The i3 should automatically select the correct map but you can also select the map using the map menu under settings but that won't appear until the i3 actualy sees two maps loaded
