C510D, GPS signal and TMC

I've just got hold of a C510D after dumping a TT510. Just a couple of issues I could do with some help on.
Firstly, the C510D picks up a GPS signal really quickly outdoors and indoors but it seems to be struggling when mounted on the windscreen of my car (BMW 1 Series). Is the windscreen blocking the signal? I thought that wasn't the case with these newer chips? It seems only lock on when I switch to WAAS/EGNOS mode. Is this the case?
Also, ny C510D has locked on to a TMC despite being on the A1M this morning. Is the service patchy?

Mine's fine in a Honda CRV and TMC down here in Glos and on the road to Hamps was good.

Another thought - have you got one of those fancy heated windscreens, with a very fine heating wire imbedded in it? I have heard they can interfere with signals.
