Is there a way to use your own alerts for speedcamera's etc? I would like to use an mp3 file as an alert instead of the standard noises. Does anybody know if this can be done?

there are speed camera alerts available on this site. Make sure you get the right one for your particular version.

Sound encoding is in OGG vorbis format and the process of changing the alerts is not trivial. I'd leave it to the experts on this site who've already done the work!
