|
|
I have been searching for over an hour now and could not find the answer to my question.
I like to create my own custom CSV file for all Garmin devices.
I have read in one of the posts that I would need four headings, longitude, latitude, name and details.
I have also read on another website is that the first line in .csv file should be the headings, set out in the following format. Otherwise the POI Loader will not detect the file as .csv file. Here is example:
;longitude,;latitude,;name,;details
So before the heading a ';' must exist otherwise POI Loader will not recognise it has CSV file.
Is this true? |

Yes that is correct. However you only need a single semi colon at the start of the first line not in front of each label.
i.e.
;longitude,latitude,name,details |

Would the semi colons before each label cause an error or would it still work? |

no, it still works - it sees the initial semi-colon and knows to ignore the rest of the line.

Speed camera csv file shown in notepad
-3.32644,55.00616,TEMP: A75 @60
Motorway Services csv file shown in notepad
-3.092,55.0082,MWay A74(M) -Gretna
Caravan and Camping csv file shown in notepad
-2.304461,53.602484,BURRS COUNTRY PARK
I use excel to create and save as csv file the (,) comma is put in by the software.
The poi you have created must have a bmp file named exactly the same as the csv file and be exactly 22 x 22 pixel
There will be a limit on the name/description field before you ask i don't know the answer it will take more than can be displayed on the screen so use common sense.
Any poi's i create are checked out by importing into Autoroute to check before i load them into the Garmin. |

Thank you, that clears things up for me.
What Garmin devices support csv? Do they all use POI Loader?
Thanks |

I have Garmin iQue 3600.
I have visited the Garmin website (clicked on the link in the above post) and I have found out that POI Loader is not listed for iQue 3600. In another words I don't think POI Loader works with iQue 3600.
I have tried using POI Loader anyway and I get a data error on lines 177 and 33. When I looked at these lines they correct and as I wanted them. The csv file looks correct.
What should I do now? |

Would not .gdb or.gpx or.wpt files me easier to use on Mapsource and you iQue 3600?
You could then use POI converter to change the file type later. |

Sorry, there is a typing error. There is a data error on line 17, not 177.
