Help please for an old wrinkley, I have purchased a Garmin i3, great piece of kit but I am struggling,. can I delete POi's without resetting unit.
if not will I be able to re-install the mapping software.? also I have a 256 micro SD card. Is there any benefit to getting a 512 card .? the same question will then apply :- can I install the map software onto a new card... apologies if these questions are either basic or stupid but us old-uns struggle with the new technology (electric light etc.)
Thank you ... Ben..

Welcome Yes there is a way to clear all your downloaded POIs. Unfortunatly after a long and tiring search I can't find the answer. As for the mapping unless your very confident of your computing ability leave well alone. I'm sure that a forum member will direct you to the answer Soon

If you are talking about custom POI's (i.e. ones you have uploaded yourself) then just remove the ones you don't want from the file on your PC and upload the ones you do want, it will automatically delete the unwanted ones.
The ones that are preloaded by Garmin are fixed there and cannot be removed.

Why do you want to remove any POI's, they do not have any adverse effect when they are just sitting there?

There is no benefit getting a larger memory card unless you want to install extra maps.

I hope that helps.
Nick.

Hi, many thanks to the people who replied, both the person from over the border, and Nick,
Yes it was the ones that come preloaded that I was trying to delete, mainly to give me extra space if I needed it to load extra POI's. the excellent ones in the list on this site. I have worked out how to load them individually so perhaps there is enough spare space..

That was also the reason I assumed a 512 SD card may be required, to load extra's into the i3 but the advice to leave the mapping well alone will be followed.

Thanks again from the old geezer ... Ben...

If you do get another card it won't be of much use as you cannot get the data across to the new card in a way that the device will read it or use it (something to do with the SD, the S meaning secure, and for once they got it right) - the supplied card should suffice for all you need to load.

Just bear in mind you need to create a folder for the POI's you want to load and add/ delete to the unit before using the loader application to transfer the POI's to the little Garmin unit, each upload will wipe out previous data, so you cannot do incremental loads direct to the device - add them to the folder on the PC first - Mike

with my 256mb card i currently have nearly 40,000 poi's... i don't think space is an issue! unless you have one of the new i3's with internal memory then they only seem to have space for about 20,000 points
