|
|
Hi,
I'm looking to upgrade my PDA/GPS solution. I currently have :
IPAQ 3970 with NAVMAN 3000 sleeve
WM2003
TTNAV 2
Smart Clip and Brodit Swivel vent mount
Currently planning on buying:
IPAQ 4150
Fortuna Clip-On BT
WM2003
TTNAV 2
- Is this a good working combination?
- Are there any new IPAQ's or BT receivers planned for market before April 2004?
- Can I get another Brodit holder for the 4150 (which will now be sleeveless so my old holder won't fit)?
- Where should the BT receiver be placed in the car? Does it need its own holder?
- How does the power suituation work with both the IPAQ and receiver needing charge from the same cigarette lighter? Will I need a split adapter to power both (the Brodit has its own power charger which chargers the IPAQ)?
Lots of questions I know but any advice would be much appreciated before I spend my cash. I don't need the new system until April this year so I don't want to buy something now that will be out-dated by April.
Many thanks

The combination looks good to me (although by the time you start buying you will probably have to get TT3 rather than TT2).
The GPS receiver can be placed anywhere in the car where you can guarantee a decent sky view - under the windshield, or somewhere at the back window. It doesn't need to be permanently powered either, but a place near a power socket sure helps. The reach of BT is more than adequate to allow placement anywhere in the car. I have mine in the trunk area, below the spare wheel (I use an external GPS antenna). No problems with BT traffic at all
You can make a Y cable for the 5V supply to the PDA and the GPS but there are also plenty of double socket accessories available that allow you to plug more than one device into the cigarette lighter adapter. _________________ Lutz

Hi Clem,
Out of interest, what’s wrong with the 3970? I must admit that I don’t know the 4150 range, the only major difference is that the 4150 appears to support Wi-Fi.
If you’re upgrading would you consider selling all or part of your old set-up? 8)
