Rechargeable Battery

what Rechargeable Batterys are the best to use with the i3 i am thinks of getting a in car Battery charger and batterys so i dont have to use power lead

I use 2300mH NI-MH cells in mine, its fine with these and you can get four plus a charger from Maplin - I am still trying to work out how to put a recharger circuit and battery into my i3 - not much headway at the moment - just remember to tell the unit what type of cells you are using so it knows when to issue a battery alert - Mike

nimh 2300+mah are the best.

if you do use batteries remember the i3 does not reacharge them.
the performance will be effected aswell ie volume not as loud, proximity alerts not sounding as batteries become low.
best bet in my opinion is if you can power from the car then do but always have a set of batteries in the unit as this speeds up satalite lock.

Wouldn't using the power lead be easier than attaching a whole recharger to your ciggy lighter and then pulling off to replace the batteries in your Garmin when they run out?

you would think so but i have just got a Citroen Xsara Picasso and the power point is a long way from where i can put the i3 dont want to fanny on taking bits of dash out and stuff

4 batteries of 2300 mAh or above fully charged the night before any long journey will do. You can swap pairs half way at services.

In fact if you have 4 fully charged batteries i bet the i3 will still be going long after you get to your destination.

point taken it might be just as well then the make/ buy a ciggy extension lead from maplins, halfords etc.
that way all you would need to do to tuck the wires away.

Energizer 1 hour battery charger that comes with 4 x 2500mah AA batteries? and an in car lead so you can use it on the move?

Charge em up, 2 in your i3, when they run out swap for your next 2.... 12hours usage.... while your using the second pair the first pair can be charged either in car or from mains in an hour so you will never be without power.

probably the same price as the extension !
sounds as if you have made your mind up.
check what batteries are supplied.
the ones that we have all stated here are for optimum performance. the batteries supplied may not be upto much cop so if you have to replace them it might start to get a bit pricey.

just ordered 4 x 2550 aa batteries and a in car charger for £12 that will do the trick

Just a quick word of warning to all of you using high power rechargable cells - treat them with respect.
They are fine in the device.
DO NOT PUT THEM IN YOUR POCKET (they will short out on keys/ coins etc and can set fire to your pocket, trust me I am talking from hard earned experiance)
Get a case or holder to secure the charged cells when not in use, or leave them in the charger - they can bite back

I use my i3 for work. I use it in map mode (i.e. not navigating, just showing my current position.) as I need to record street names.

I use 2300mAh batteries and in continuous use the battery life was approx 4hrs.

The downloadable handbook says ast least 2300mah. I bought a Uniross charger and 4 2300 batteries off ebay for under 9 quid (they are still on there now) and seem to be getting 5 to 6 hours out of them.
