Today Navman launched the new iCN520. This is a complete SavNav system which is a more advanced version of the popular Navman iCN510.
For those of you who came to the PocketGPSWorld.com GPS Meet in Wales the other weekend you may have seen a sneak preview of the system.
With prices starting at £350 for a single country mapset the iCN520 should begin shipping at the end of the month.
The full system specification is yet to be published, but in the mean time you can read the Navman Press release:

LONDON, July 13, 2005 – Keys ... check! Wallet … check! Navman … check! Whether you are travelling for work or pleasure, make sure you don’t go anywhere without the latest Navman in-car satellite navigation device. With superior routing and guidance, Navman iCN 520 will get you to your destination quicker than ever.
Navman iCN 520 is an advanced version of the popular iCN 510, packed with great new features and the latest TeleAtlas map data. With a sleek black finish, iCN 520 is a stylish and useful addition to any car.
Prash Vadgama, Navman president for sales and marketing, said, “I’m happy to introduce iCN 520 to the market today. This product combines a user friendly interface with advanced navigation features in a modern and portable design. We believe iCN 520 will be as successful as its predecessor, iCN 510, which is currently the best selling transferable navigation product in France and the United Kingdom . A high level of customer satisfaction has been a key factor in the success of iCN 510 across Europe. We anticipate doing even better with the iCN 520”.
A breeze to use
Using this GPS-based device could not be easier. Simply input your destination on the colour touch screen, and let iCN 520 do the hard work of planning the best route for you to take. The new SmartST 2005 Navigation software offers a quick and accurate search for town, postcode, street, street intersection, house number or points of interest (POI). When the search is done, the screen displays a small map of the destination letting you confirm your search destination. During the journey, accurate and clear voice instructions guide you turn–by-turn, allowing you to concentrate on the road.
New advanced map imagery gives you a better impression of your surroundings on screen, including land contours, parks and forests, POI, railways, rivers and lakes, as well as a choice of 3D topographical style, 2D map, 2D mini-maps, or instructions list to allow you to customise your view of the journey.
Advanced features
iCN 520 provides you with thousands of POI in your area. Whether you are short on petrol, in need of a hearty meal or eager to see the local tourist attractions, Navman points you in the right direction. Furthermore, My POI™ allows the user to easily import his or her own favourite POI, including speed cameras databases available free of charge from the web.
iCN 520 helps you to steer clear of known traffic bottlenecks by selecting the area you want to avoid on the map, and includes information on the London Congestion Charge when driving through the capital. The new device also has multi-stop routing functionality enabling the driver to navigate a journey via multiple destinations.
Navman iCN 520 is available in two versions; iCN 520 includes local country maps for £349 and iCN 520 Premium European Edition has full European maps of 16 countries on CD and a remote control for £449. Both devices are available from leading retailers and e-tailers from end of July 2005.
ICN 520 comes with a windshield mounting bracket and 12v DC power adapter that connects to the vehicle’s cigarette lighter socket. A carry case, USB cable and mains power adaptor are also included.

So, other than the colour of the case, what has actually changed? And are we going to see a free upgrade to existing 510 users of any improved software?
So the hardware is the same as the 510 only a different colour? I didn't read anything in the press blurb other then a software upgrade (which is OK too).
I suppose it's too early to know if the Smartst 2005 can be loaded onto a 510?
I was just about to buy a 510 when I saw this article? Is it worth me waiting for the 520 to start appearing in shops? Will it have the effect of reducing the 510 price?

I don't really see much differance here, what hardware diffs are there?
I'd like to have the smartst 2005 software though, maybe there is an upgrade option.
While black is cool looking, man it is going to get even hotter in the SUN!
Navman products are not very good to be honest, the re-routing is very slow and the maps do not be able to keep up with the road - have tried two navman products and have had the same results. Tomtom go on the other hand, well this does need much plugging but it is significantly better in terms of speed of routing, usability, full post code entry etc.....

I beg to differ. The rerouting on my PDA and iCN635 is really fast and they 'keep up with the road' admirably. I've tried four Navman products and have had the same results.

Never tried a GO, but TTN5 on my PDA offers slower rerouting, flaky receiver compatibility and average usability (although this is probably because I'm more used to the Navman interface. I do like the full postcode lookup, mind. _________________ Tim

I don't believe the iCn520 will ship with traffic or full postcode. As for free upgrades... which GPS company actually upgrades for free? Fingers crossed they offer a cheaper cost though...

Hello Mike,
Where did you find this information ?
I didn't see it on Navman web sites...
Scroll down the homepage and there's a News section on the left-hand side (not the Navman News link), and it's shown there. The URL to the full article is here:
For anyone thats wondering the Maps with the new 520 are
only V3.50 Not new Version 4 coming soon
They do not appear to work on a 510
(Putting the memory card in a 510 results in the Map selection screen
Being highlighted in red and not letting you select them)
And it uses a 256 mb memory card
Am about to try Swapping the actual map data with data on 510 memory card.
Navman informed me they will be selling new Software for the 510
but not untill the new smart st V4 comes out in september
