I have been using tomtom since tomtom 2, and have allways loved it, and never had a big issue, however i tryed updating my Dell PDA to windows mobile 5, never installed tomtom on the setup as the operating system was no good. i formated the PDA and went back to WM2003SE which is what i always ran tomtom on, since doing this i have not been able to get a GPS fix in tomtom, it says in the main window "no GPS device!" however when i go into th GPS setting in the menu the yellow and black disk in the top right hand corrner is spinning, is this not ment me mean it is working? i sat in the car for 10mins and still not even one bar showed up on the GPS screen. I setup the GPS the same way as allways and its all pluged in with power as allways!

What does the spining disk mean as i assumed it ment it has found GPS hardware that is working yet it still says "no GPS device"?

please help.....

thanks james

your receiver is probably running in SiRF mode. Switch it to NMEA.

I have a different unit but try opening TomTom, tap on the radio bars bottom right. Next screen tap in grey rectangle. Next screen Tap on Configure and choose the appropriate settings.

I assume you have TTN5.21. If you have an athermic windscreen on your car, that could be the problem.

I found TTN3 to be OK but since updating to TTN5.21, I have to stand outside the car to get a lock before setting up inside. Once I have the lock there are no problems.

You have a different issue. Yours is that TTN5 is impatient when it doesn't have a fix on startup, and initiates a cold reboot of the GPS. The workaround is to give the receiver and advantage of one, two minutes BEFORE starting TomTom

As for the other question - use APLSirf on the PDA to switch protocols.

Only really need one Plus map for the Major Roads of Europe.

My GB gets me around home here.

When I travel to France I switch to the France Plus map before setting off. This will get me to Eurotunnel on the Major Roads of Europe and on arrival in France my Street level is there for me.
