Hi all

Am about to go for a TTG700, but was wondering whether to wait for the new range, as it's only maybe a few weeks away now.

As for the new range, I don't see that the mp3 player will be that useful to me. Basically I have a few questions/queries.

1. Will the existing TTG range be updated to V6(?) and if so, I presume you will have to buy that? I like the idea of being able to plan a route on the PC and then transfer it to the TTG.

2. Not sure if the new range is worth the extra £100 or so (910) over a TTG700, but views on the pro's and con's of the new range would be very welcome.

I've used both the 500 and the 700 before (borrowed from friends), so I know what they are like, just wondering what to do really.

Regards
Phil

Hi UKMoto,

Or should that be "Hello Moto"? ;)

Welcome to the forum! Thumbs Up

Sounds like you’re looking at either a 700 or a 910. If you can wait for the 910 to be released and you can justify the extra expense then you may want to wait and go for the 910.

Going on TomTom’s past performance, they will offer an upgrade to version 6.xx and the latest maps, which would be at a cost. To give you an idea of the cost the upgrade from TomTom Navigator 3 to 5 was €68.95 (approximately £46.70) including post & packing.

If you buy a 700 make sure that you buy a new one cheaply enough. The prices of the GO range and in particular the 700 have dropped recently, presumably this is due to retailers clearing their old stock. The 910 will have more up-to-date maps than the 700. I like the idea of the TTS (Text to Speech) and the option of TMC.

Personally I don’t like the idea of a hard drive in a PND (Personal Navigation Device), I prefer the use of SD cards, as they’re much easier to swap. However I concede that if you want TTS then you need to go for the 910, which has the hard drive.

Have a look at the specifications of the 500, 700, 510, 710, and 910 and ask yourself whether you’d use (or like) all of the functions. Determine which functions you want, need, or can’t do without and then make the choice.

Regards,
