Hi,
I am just about to buy an Mio A201 for GPS and PDA functionality, but need to be able to use in France, trying to buy via Global Positioning Systems on line but apparently they don't think the Tom Tom French SD card is compatible with the A201?
They have suggested the Co Pilot software and advised that the European maps work using this system, and are better value £90 for all Europe rather than for just France on Tom Tom.
I am not too bad technically but want a reliable system without hassles.
My questions are:
1. Has anyone used an A201 with Tom Tom SD for France and does it work out of the box?
2. Is the CoPilot the better software anyway?
Thanks

What about the Mio Map software ? This appears to be about £75 cheaper than the Tom Tom and has maps of Europe included on CD.It only comes bundled with an SD card with UK and Ireland maps however, so if you want an SD card with France maps on it ,you would need to load those yourself unless you can get the supplier to do it for you. There are no instructions in the Mio map manual how to do this and I havn't installed the active sync software yet to try it (Does anyone else know how to do this?).I have just bought the A201 with Mio Map and it seems to work realy well.I have also seen reports from those who have tried both, that the Mio Map is the more accurate navigator even though the interface isn't as user friendly. My only gripe is that if you let it plan the route itself, it can take you an inconveniet way like through a town centre or spagetie juncton in Birmingham. To force it to go a more sensible route you have to specify points you want to go through in the "itinerary" mode. |

I have the A201 with Miomap and have been happy with it's performance. I have used it extensively in the UK and found it to be easy to use and accurate. On a recent holiday to Switzerland I loaded the map of the alpine regions onto an SD card I had and found it worked accurately and with detailed maps. I wasn't driving but was able to confirm it's use on the trains I took and also whilst walking around the town where I stayed. I have no reason to believe that the data and functionality for France would be any different so on the strength of this I would endorse the Miomap option. |

Hi,
Thanks for response, however gone for Co Pilot 6 based on excellent feedback from a colleague, and general reputation, although will need to buy licence for European maps.
Will let you know how I get on with it!
Regards
