I've had my Nuvi 300 for a while now and am mostly very pleased with it. However, I have begun to notice that on the 3 loudest settings the voice suffers a bit from distortion, including a bit of what sounds like speaker vibration (a buzz behind the words). Do other people who have a Nuvi find the same or is it still clear even at full volume? (I'm not using a TTS voice just the standard British English one.)

I'm trying to work out whether I have a faulty unit or whether the vibration is inevitable with such a small speaker

Generally i set my Nuvi to last one or two away from full volume, as this gives clear speech without distortion. Full volume (on most products) distorts

Whilst happy with this volume, looking to change my car hifi soon, and will get one with an aux in on the front, and run my Nuvi with downloaded mp3s and downloaded radio through this, with navigation

Have tried this on a friends car, and it really is excellent

Thanks for the tip on attaching to the car hifi.

On the Nuvi, I'd expect some distortion at full volume but what I don't like so much is the vibration (a sort of buzz) that I can hear behind the sound on the loudest three settings. Do you get that with yours? I have to use the fourth loudest setting if I want to avoid it completely.

Personally i find it find for navigation only at all levels except the final (highest) one, and for MP3s (although not great for this) at up to and including 3 below final. Audio books seem better at up to 2 below final

If you can, i would compare in a local store to make sure it isn't your unit. Usually if it sounds wrong, it is!

Difficult to answer you fully without hearing your unit, but my Nuvi seems fine

i get the same buzz. i presume it's just a play-off between nice slim unit with poorer speaker or better speaker with a fatter unit..

I'd keep an eye (or should that be an ear?) on that if I were you... Exclamation

The first two i3's that I had (I'm on my forth, BTW 8O) had similar problems - the audio became increasingly distorted, and at lower and lower volumes, before dying completely Evil or Very Mad
