It is almost definitely one of the 2:
1. You do not have a "proper" null modem adapter, which is need between the 2 serial cables. A mere gender changer will not do.
2. You have a keyborad instlled? If so you have to disable/remove it. _________________ Pc-Mobile

I've just connected my Garmin to my ipaq.
I used the existing leads with a serial connector.
A gender bender will not work. You have to make sure that there is a swapping of connectors.
essentially pin 5 on both is earth
pin 2 has to cross- over to pin 3 on the other serial connector and pin 3 to pin two.
As I understand it, if you don't then the transmit and the receive wires conflict.... so no connection.
You can buy ready made cables that go from the ipaq to the gps.
I might do that yet... I'm sick of all the wires that you have to have laying about.
hope it helps.

As PC-Mobile correctly said, you need a "null modem", not just a gender changer.
So far as ready made cables go, he's one of the biggest vendors and most seem delighted with his products.
