Hi.

Is it possible that we could have a mobile gps comparisson thread in a sticky please. (maybe like a votinging system)

Many TT Mobile users have a wide variety of mobile gps receivers. However for those who are about to change to mobile and are confused which to get, it would be a good starting point.

I just got a cheepy from ebay, a Fuzion gps receiver which seems to work fine outdoors (naff indoors).

So maybe it would help users to decide what to buy.

Also perhaps a sticky about what to look for in a receiver, ie is it ok with a 16 channel receiver in UK or what the benefits are in gettin a 20 or 32 channel.

Is it woth buying these for uk use?

Thanks

I've got a Holux 236 and it's a cracking receiver inside and out, also from within your glove box !
More expensive than my old BT-77 but worth the extra pennies :D :D

How would a 32 channel receiver work - with only 24 GPS satellites in orbit? 8O (or am I missing something?)

yes you are 8) It's claiming to use 32 channels, not 32 satellites. Especially in urban canyons you have lots of multipath signals, and while older receivers have discarded those signals the newer generation is actually able to utilize the data in these multipath signals. So the signal from one satellite can actually be correlated in multiple channels.

Lutz, do you have any references on multipath inclusion on additional channels? I've Googled around but couldn't find anything...

Incidentally Aitch2, there are 29 GPS satellites at the time of writing how this is a moot point given your valid note regarding the number in view at any one time.

Any info Lutz? I'd hate to think you've been a victim of GPS marketing departments with regards to the advantages of >12 channel receivers! Wink
