It's OK, only the Screen protection type on my 5450. I have had bad encounters so far with screen protectors. I currently have one on, which makes following Tom Tom on screen look likes its a foggy day. Can anyone recommend a good make, which is easy to put on, leaves no bubbles, and doesn't make your screen half as good as it really is. Or should I just forget it and not bother using one.

I read the topic title and thought: Shall I ?

Then I thought no. A sensible answer is in order .

Now I know a lot of people will advocate using screen protection, but I dont. What is the point of spending lots of money on the best screen around then covering it up?

If you are careful and look after your PDA there really is no need to make your screen virtually unuseable. Make sure that the stylus tip is always clean. Make sure that you use a case or the hard screen cover when transporting your pda. Dont put a pda with no screen cover in a pocket with keys. Keep you screen clean. Etc.

Good housekeeping and dose of common sense will keep the pda in perfect condition.

On the other hand all it takes is one scratch. However I have read that even these can be polished out. Havent needed to try that myself though.

Speaking personally I'd never have no protection. Especially with the birds I end up picking up! Damn, sorry, I had to do it.

Think of it this way.. once your screen is scratched it's scratched for good. Unless of course you like to spend wads of cash getting it replaced by HP? I called Casio not so long ago about the screen on my E-105. They wanted £158 plus VAT as a standard service charge, before parts!

To be honest I've found the Write Sheild protectors very good. I cannot see any screen degradation when I put them on, they are very easy to apply and keep clean and are very hardwearing as far as I can see. No problems with screen tap and finger presses either. You'd think they'd be less sensitive but they're not. Spend the extra and get these, they are top quality. I also have the 5450 and 3 sheilds for 20 odd quid is money very well spent IMHO.

I'm with Russ - I have a Pocket PC Techs' WriteSHIELD on my 3970 and find it ideal. In fact, if anything, I prefer it to a 'naked' screen, as I find the WriteSHIELD surface slightly anti-reflective and therefore great for in car navigation use.

The problem with scratches is that the top layer on a Pocket PC screen is the touchscreen layer. I personally wouldn't want to polish it, as if you go too far you've wrecked the touchscreen and you'll have to have a new touchscreen fitted at considerable cost (you don't need a complete new screen, but just replacing the touchscreen layer isn't cheap and the cost of a complete new screen is frightening).

Even though I'm very careful about my screen, one day I did hear a nasty scratching sound and there was a deep scratch in the cheap protector I was using at the time. I'd obviously somehow got a tiny piece of grit onto the end of my stylus. If I hadn't have had a screen protector on, that scratch would now be permanently in my screen.

However, those cheap screen protectors (Expansys' own brand) were junk and I wouldn't recommend them. In fact, I recommend the WriteSHIELD Deluxe kit - the cleaning solution is top notch (it works really well on my expensive Dell 1703FP LCD monitor as well as laptop screens) and the extra cleaning cloth is very handy.

Expansys carry WriteSHIELD products in the UK.
