Hello,

I am interested in the i-Blue. Is this made by I-Trek?

If so, any problems with this pod?

Thanks. The new Nemerix chipset seems to far surpass SiRF in many ways.

OK.

Have you used it with TomTom? I have an IPaq 4700, and am hearing of connexion problems due to the auto-off.

I now find that the I-Trek version of the i-Blue is the [url=http://www.semsons.com/im5blgpsrewa.html[M5[/url]. I haven't been able to find out who makes them, but it is the same manufacturer.

The M5 is better though, as it comes with GPSGate, and has WAAS/EGNOS enabled. It is also more expensive. The i-Blue now has v4 Nemerix firmware (as of a month ago), but the M5 will stay at v3.7 until WAAS/EGNOS is added to V4.

It is vital though, that I know whether this will have connextion problems with the IPaq4700+TomTom, due to the auto-off feature. Alix, you there?

Also, it seems to me like the Holux GPSSlim has a poor build-quality; it is loose and creaky to the touch. OTOH the original Emtac BT was pretty solid.

How does the i-Blue compare?

i have used it much with tomtom i was using iGO with it and it was rock solid it should have any auto off problems. the gps only goes into standby it doensnt turn off and this only happens when the pocket pc drops the bluetooth link

There used to be an issue with the 4700 when running TomTom version 5,0 as it suffered from a memory leak which after 30 to 40 mins would cause it to run out of memory.

The newer versions of TomTom do not exhibit this behaviour and work fine on the 4700 when coupled to the GPS unit via Bluetooth.

The only other anoyance with the 4700 is the stupid screen saver but that is easy to turn off (Start/ Programs/ DockWare, tap and hold the screen and deselect the tick from "Start Automatically"

The sure fire way would be to try the 4700 I have with the I-blue that Alex has, then confirm the situation, but I doubt there will be a problem - Mike

Thanks guys.

Ya, I have TTN5.2, and all is well except after each week or so, it can't initialize the bluetooth stack. I have to soft-reset it, sometimes many times in order to complete reboot.

Sometimes I go out to the car and turn on the 4700, and it is locked-up and hot in the back (Brodit cradle); in some kind of death loop. Have to soft-reset it at least ten times to get a full boot. I am sure this has to do with the busted BT stack as well. I have WM2003SE (ROM 1.10). Maybe WM5 would fix this, or maybe it would make things worse... its a crap-shoot with Winduhs. Wish TomTom ran on Opie, which is rock-solid.

I've DLed the BT update from HP, but it only seems to add a headset.

Is it possible that I have an old Widcomm stack conflicting with some kind of TTN BT stack? HP had installed WM2003 on my PDA, and I've done nothing but install TTN on it.

Also, over on Passion he has one article where the i-Blue tracked perfectly in urban canyons, and another article where it only reported spottily and wavered like the other pods. So I am confused about Nemerix3's ability to reject multipath. Here in Seattle, my Holux236 does fine except when I'm downtown, where it skaaates all over and flips on its head. I never know where to turn.

How does the i-Blue handle urban canyons? You can plot tracks to an aerial photo on Google Earth, as I understand.

Is the i-Blue creaky and cheep, like the Holux236?

(Alix, when you're done with the i-Blue, maybe you could punt it on over to Mike?)

the goolgle bit wont have anything to do with the receiver any receiver will do

mike is going to nick the i blue off me for a week or so to checkout and issue with his 4700 so give us a week or so

dont get to caught up in chipsets it really isnt worth it. as i say it preform as well as my other bt gps receiver which are an APOS626 ad a tomtom mk2 reciver.

with bt stack its not you see sometimes you wont see fixes and improvments if it adds a headset option then there might be other tweeks to the bt stack that have taken place too.

as for wm05 on the 4700 it does slow the 4700 down significantly so it stick with wm2003se
