I have a Haicom 203e for my Sony Clie. I noticed that at the points where the four screws hold the mouse together, all four corners of the plastic have fractured and splintered. It is all holding together at the moment and no plasic has come away.

I have put this down to the recent heat, or overtightening at the factory, and have now arrange for its return to the supplier for exchange/refund.

Has anyone else experienced this?

I might stump up the extra £30 for the Holux Supermouse instead.

I haven't seen or heard of this. The Leadtek's are pretty good and don't suffer from this, but they are a hard plastic, but the Leadteks are a little bulky. If you want a small receiver, then the RoyalTek Sapphire is well built.

I left my Road Angel in the sun on the dash the other day and when I plugged it in it did not respond. It came back on after a little blast with the aircon.

Is this normal with GPS antennae?

I guess it was outside the operating temperature range?

Not normal, I would check the specs, usually operating temperature specs are quite high

Sent an email to Blackspot about the temperature specs last Thursday evening. Got a response from them on Friday morning saying that the Road Angel was heat saoked during development and that it was sold in Oz with no reported problems. Suggested that a courier swap out replacement. I emailed back asking for clarification of the swap out process, but supplied the work address nevertheless.

I was waiting for their reply to this when the next thing I knew the courier turned up at my work address! What customer service!!

What's more the replacement looks brand new, and has the latest spec with blackspot mute, RescueLoc.

Top marks to Blackspot!

The Road Angel also used the Holux GPS Receiver inside so you should be able to check the specs quite easily.

Thanks, Dave

I've had a look at the Holux mouse specs - it supposed to have an operating temp range of 0C - 60C.

I know it was hot, but was it really over 60C inside the black box last Monday lunchtime?

I suppose once the plastic absorbs the heat it can be much hotter inside.

One thing you do have to be warey of with cooling things down with air con is, it generates water droplets. My vents are blocked with my vent mounts, and I just have the climate control set to a nice 17C. When I feel the iPAQ it's warm to touch, if I take the vent mount off of the vent it's got condensation on it. So be careful.

Some plastics you find also sweats in heat, so you may be getting like a condensation on the inside of the Road Angel perhaps.

js. I have exactly the same problem with all four corners fractured and now the unit is not sending any data to the PPC. I think it's time to ring the supplier and arrange a replacement.

Just had a look at mine and yes, mine also has fractures around the screws.

At the moment it is still working fine. I'll monitor its performance for a few weeks to see what happens.

Mine's started doing the same, it's only a few months old and hasn't been used very much at all. I'd better give GPSW a call.

Cheers,
Matt
