I wanted to change my text to speech voice from the male to the female one. The instructions in the user manual say there are four options so I put in the CD, clicked modify etc but only got the choice of male text to speech or a female voice file. Where are the female text to speech and the male voice files?
The guy with his clipped English voice drives me mad......
Thanks
Doug

The UK version of CoPilot only comes with a male TTS voice and female WAV. The documentation was primarily based on the US version.

If you look at the thread named Voices (courtesy of some sterling work by Grimbeard) it is possible to install the American voices but you also have to tweak the Language.dat file (or something like that) to make the voice say Roundabout instead of Circle.

Cheers
Paul

Hi Doug

Sorry I've been out of the country for the past week. All the voices are in cab files listed under the install for the country that you select when installing CP5 on your desktop. Each country has a differnet range of Male and Female. I didn't like any of the two UK voices and whislt i don't much care for the US accent, The US voice sounds like Marvin the depreesed android off Hich-Hikers.

Just as keeps54 wrote, take al look at at my earlier post called 'Voices', I'm sure you will be pleaesd.

I'm back now so I can keep an eye on the posts.

Hi, this may be of help to someone. After installing CoPilot Live 6 I found that I only had one voice available. This was a tex-to-voice male voice which I found difficult to listen to. I wanted to change it to a pre-recorded female voice but there was no drop-down list to choose from. I then found the answer at this link:

http://www.alk.com/support/copilotlive_pocketpc6/faqs_speech_2.asp

I followed the instructions given and now have a UK female voice, a male US voice and several others in various languages.

I hope this helps someone. Confused

While on the subject of voices, has anyone tried out the .WAV voices on CP 6, please? I found with CP 5 that there were so few instructions in the .WAV voices option that it was not worth changing from .TTS. What I'd rather like to know is whether this is still the case with CP 6.

Yes, the CP5 WAV voice only gave you one turn ahead, while the TTS usually gives you the direction of the next turn as well. I also like the TTS voice's futile attempts at trying to teach me the names of the local roads.
