Hi all,
Got back from France on saturday and the maps were a brilliant in car calming aid, as you say no more "spouse to paper map errors"!
Sure there were occasions when the maps were out of date and we were driving down a bypass but indicated as on fields, but common sense and the holiday attitude soon helped there.
All in all they were a very good investment indeed and if you look at the price of indivdual michelin country large scale book maps, the TT2 europe package actually works out competitive in price!
One thing I would have liked is Carrefour and the like POI. Had a quick look before we left but couldnt find POI for the big shops in France.
Best regards David |

Just returned from France after a weeks holidays and using GPS was a massive help. But at least 3 or 4 times the french maps were hopelessly inaccurate...leading to TTN2 indicating that I was doing 130 km/hr across open countryside! At least one major bypass wasn't shown and several roundabouts missed yet the single lane track that led to our rented farmhouse including onto the farm itself was included!..very strange.
But apart from that it was brilliant...so much so that in the end the French folks we were visiting had us leading the 3-4 car convoys on days out. |

Glad you had a good time there Groucho, where abouts in France where the errors? I have just ordered the european maps and am off to the west coast at the end of this week.

I guess the old country lanes won't change/be developed over time, but newer roads are constantly being modified and improved so are more likely to be inaccurate.
I also had to lead a convoy down to the South of France last year, I was chosen to lead the way because I had GPS!!! Not always an advantage cos you get picked on.
It was superb though, highly accurate. (The system was an in-built Lexus one - I've still not had the chance to test TTN2 to the same extent for comparison). |

Thanks
We were in the North West of France....but I didn't pay any attention to where the particular errors occured... but it was never a serious problem, we would normally get back on track within a few seconds.
Having the French maps was well worth it for the stress of not having to use my wifes version of map reading!

I found them particularly useful finding my way round Reims this year - last year without, I got totally lost! I used it to also locate the Mumm Champagne house - very nice. |
