>Why are TomTom having so much trouble with SiRF? Did they get the Dutch equivalent of a YTS trainee to write it?
I've never been able to find any usable documentation on the SiRF protocol. I sent many emails to SiRF themselves asking for documentation or a contact somewhere else that could provide it, and never received even the courtesy of a reply. |

Yeah, very helpful. I have found that. Select log, click on play, go back to TTN2 and? Nothing. The log is 47 minutes, 651k. How do I get it to display on the map?
I have written some programs that run on a PC to convert the TomTom Log Files to various formats. One of them will create a POI overlay that you can transfer back to the PocketPC to see the track. Follow the link and scroll down to the bottom.

Ok - you can only replay the log in the Navigator screen. From memory, I think you play the log, then switch to Naigator view.
Hope this helps. |

Same place as where you record, but use the "play" button. |

Only had TTN2 for a few days. I've found how to record a log but can't find any info in help or manual on how to replay it. Darren, it's obviously so obvious you didn't bother to say how, but have pity on us lesser mortals.
How? |

This link has documentation for a more recent SiRF firmware level than the link stuartm gave. I think this file relates to 2.2 series SiRF firmware; it doesn't cover the new features in 2.3 (Navigation library, SBAS control).
I don't know of any publicly available documentation on 2.3 SiRF firmware.

Is this any use?

In NMEA mode, the log file is simply the NMEA sentences from the GPS - with a few pseudo-sentences on the beginning of the file.
I haven't bothered to pick apart a SiRF mode log - but I suspect it's along similar lines - basically the received data from the GPS.

I've been using TTN for a while and am fairly competent at using all the standard features, but what is the GPS log for and why do you need the 'Record' and 'Play' buttons? Is it similar to recording POI's on the hoof?

Hi Rob, strike that last comment, I can now play it back . I'll check it out and see if I can see it happening in the playback. I've also forwarded this to my technical contact in TomTom who worked on the SiRF issues with me.
I've received a response back saying he'll give the log a play and see if he can find what's happening and it will be added to their todo bug list.
Also DavidW, the Reset GPS feature will be looked at and also added to the todo bug list. Currently it's only available in NMEA, but can be used with a little extra coding in SiRF.
I can't say when this will get done, as I don't know what TomTom's ToDo list is like, or how long, or what priority, but it's been logged officially now. |

Dave
Assume that means the Log file I sent you recently wasn't much use?
