Could anyone help please. I realise that this seems to have been done to death already, but I still cannot get the 7-digit postcodes to work in TT 5.

The various posts mostly recommend locating in My Documents an empty folder named TomTom and another folder named Zip, in which to copy the postcode files. I have tried this, as well as the variations that have been suggested, but without success.

I have tried double tapping the postcode CAB file, which causes an installation, and I have tried just leaving the CAB file in the Zip folder after uninstalling the installed postcode installation.

I should mention that in the first place I had to copy the CAB and ini files manually from CD, as they were not transferred to the PDA by the installation programme.

Further to my abobe post, it is perhaps worth mentioning that starting the CAB installation installs a new Zip folder, containing the GB postcode file, in My Documents.

All that appears to be needed after that to complete the installation is an empty TomTom folder, but there is already one in MyDocuments that is not empty: it contains files that appear to be essential.

The optimum (and recommended) solution is to have the 'zip' folder in the root of the storage card with an accompanying empty 'tomtom' folder in the root also.

Do not remove the 'TomTom' folder in MyDocuments but ensure that the 'zip' folder only exists in the root of the storage card (with the accompanying Great_Britain and Nederland files within of course!).

Both the Zip and the Tomtom directories should be in the same directory as the main program, not the Documents directory.

Unfortunately, I had already found that link and got nowhere. The Zip folder they refer to on the SD card must be for the full version, not the upgrade. With the upgrade, it is on "CD1" - the GB map CD. Otherwise, TomTom themlseves seem to be suggesting exactly what most people on the forum have recommended.

Further to my most recent post, I have now noticed that uninstalling the postcodes takes a GBPostcodes (or similar name) programme out of memory and at the same time deletes the Zip folder and its contents from My Documents. This together with the fact that installing the postcodes from the CAB files automatically puts the Zip folder in My Documents suggests that I may near the right lines. The problem is, though, that TT 5 still won't use the postcodes.

I'm just as bad when in unfamiliar territory! It'll be worth the effort, for me navigating to a PostCode is such a useful option that I use it the majority of the time.

Sad to say I am still getting nowhere.

I have installed the GB postcodes from CAB and transferred them to the Zip folder in the SD root. I have then made sure that the only Zip folder is in the SD card root - which is also where the main application folders were placed by the TomTom installation.

As that failed, I also tried just putting the CAB file in the Zip folder (rather than installing the post cards from it). That failed as well.

No doubt I must be doing something wrong, but I can't see what it is.

You're making things more difficult than they need to be here. You do not 'install' the postcode files. Just ensure the zip folder containing them exists on the storage card in the root directory.

Then ensure a 'tomtom' (note case) folder exists in the root folder of the same storage card.

Soft reset and test.

Hi PONDEROUS

As what is being explained also worked for me when I did it a longtime ago I was just wondering if you are using the "Navigate to Postcode" option and not expecting to see the 7 digit postcode in the "Navigate to Address" section of TT. Only a thought.
