After upgrading to version 5.202 (with scaredycat's applications) I noticed some changes to the main screen display on connecting to the PC with a different picture of the TomTom showing and also GO 500 showing with multilingual (please wait). The other change was that following ejecting the TomTom from the taskbar, it was no longer rebooting automatically until I physically unplugged the USB cable. After downgrading to v5.201 again these changes persisted despite reinstalling my original back up files, formatting the SD card and even reinstalling v5.201 from TomTom's website as well as resetting the device and restoring factory settings. I am just wondering whether anyone else has experienced this phenomena of these changes persisting after downgrading the OS or whether it is a problem with my device. Thanks to all. |

I think they must be firmware changes. Once uploaded to the GO (not the SD card) they are fixed. Same sort of thing happened last year when the screen went dimmer on upgrade from v4.
Are you sure you had v5.201 before? The multilingual instructions should be on 5.201 they are on mine and my 700 has not been to 5.202 and back. _________________ TTGO 700 (dead)

I think that I was the first to complain about the dimmer screen. Now that I have the GO and the GO 700 side by side, it's clear that there is a difference. It may not be "dimmer", but the older model is definitely harder to see in bright light. It may be that there is a difference in contrast/colour depth or something, but a difference there is. And it may be this was the change that happened last year rather than a loss of brightness.
Just because TomTom said there was no change, it didn't mean it didn't happen. After all, they reduced the number of PoI categories without noticing _________________ TTGO 700 (dead)

GO Classic and 300/500/700 have different screens to start with, so this comparison doesn't work. The GO Classic is more difficult to see in direct sunlight.
When these complaints were made I checked the signals going to the LCDs on two GO models one with with the "old" and the other one with the "new" firmware versions. The signals were exactly the same. |
