First off - many people recommend that you start a Personal POI category (or similar) and use that instead of Favourites. That way, if your configuration files get damaged, you haven't lost your "Favourites".

In version 2.22 and above, the configuration files are in \My Documents\TomTom Navigator Settings. This brings them within the purview of the Files synchronisation feature of ActiveSync (and it is therefore possible that a problem with ActiveSync could damage the file if you use Files synchronisation). Prior to version 2.22, the main configuration file is kept in your map folder.

My understanding is that the most recent versions of Navigator delete (or otherwise reset) the configuration file if they find any problem with it. Older versions could, I believe, crash instead (which is much more annoying).

I guess, therefore, that it's possible that both of you finished up with either your global or map settings file corrupt.

I find it useful to keep backup copies of the configuration files either on a storage card or in the non-volatile iPAQ File Store.

If the files become corrupt they can either be overwritten with the backups or deleted and replaced. I used to do this with earlier versions of TTN2.

This won't prevent file corruption but it is a very quick alternative to the setup procedure.

Also useful for hard resets.

Just recently my TTNAV2 settings have been lost. When I start TTNAV2 after this I have to go through the normal setup tasks - "tap n hold screen, etc" and all of my settings and favourites have disappeared.

I think this may be a result of ActiveSync restoring old versions of a file perhaps but don't know which file and which folder it should reside in.

Any ideas? Anyone else seen this?

Thanks in advance

Exact same thing happened to me yesterday, for no reason at all I was asked to go through the acceptance screen, tap and hold etc, and all my favourites and recent journeys lost.

Very strange !

Also another good thing to practice is safe backups using Pocket Backup from Sprite Software.

Another vote from me for Pocket Backup - or, if you can use the extra features, Pocket Backup Plus. It has saved me from a complete reinstall on one occasion, and was well worth it.

Check it out at Sprite Software s website.
