cheap pocket pc and software or integrated system ?
is it worth the extra buying the integrated system, friend is selling his pocket pc for 50 quid and used to run tom tom on it
(I have no use for a pocket pc that i can think of, so has no advantages in that sense)

As long as the pocket PC you are buying is on the compatible list for Tom Tom 5 then I would buy it, you can get a cheap wired GPS and TomTom 5 from the following link for £150 (inc VAT). A friend of mine bought this and could not fault it, they even upgraded his GPS for nothing.

http://www.easydevices.co.uk/pp/PDA_GPS/Pocket_PC/TOMTOM_5_WIRED_GPS_NAVIGATION_BUNDLE.html

It comes with the maps and speed cameras (for free) loaded on a free SD Memory card so you don't even have to load them, just the software on the PDA.

I just think you would get more use from a PDA system than an all in one, plus this will be a lot cheaper than TomTom Go

£ 50 for The PPc + £ 150 for software & gps = £200 for an old PPC

Mediom PPC 150 brand new from Makro £189.00 + vat
At £225 with Uk Maps I don't think you can go wrong

You could buy a cheap copy from Ebay. Of course it may or may not work & you will get no technical support whatsoever.

Or

You could pay full price for the software from Tom Tom. Of course it may or may not work & you will get no technical support whatsoever....

there is one other route - used by an increasingly number of users.

smash window take pda or GO walk away job done... Twisted Evil

whatever way you buy it don't leave it in the car when you park - sat nav is now the goods of choice to various low life scumbags now.

Sorry to take this slightly off-topic, but do you know if thieving scumbags are taking GPS units, or only if there's a PDA in it? I have a powered Holux GPS mount, I always take the PDA out, but don't know if the scumbags would be intelligent enough to notice that the thing stuck to the windscreen is not a complete sat nav?

No the comment was from reading the Go forum - lots of units get nicked BECAUSE the go mount is in the window and then they look for the go unit - either way they do a load of damage!

Now been reading in the independent today that said scum bags also use bt phones to find bt laptops in boots - then nick them. The laptop has to be on but this could extend to those of us who have leave bt gps units powered in the car - I've just had a go at this and my phone picks mt unit up!

As I leave a cradle in my windscreen at all times as well - I guess I'm an easy target!

B*stards

It would be a real pain detaching the mount every time I use the car. I guess that if I park anywhere dodgy I'll take if off and stash it.
