when you setup the tt5 software for the first time, you have to configure the gps receiver. At first i was told to use the other cable nmea gps option, but since have changed it to think it is using the tomtom cable gps, which i find to be more accurrate and faster at finding the satelites at startup.

Does anyone have any more comments????

Is this the Mio168? I doubt there is any real difference in performance, there is no difference between TomTom Cable GPS and Other Cable NMEA GPS aside from the fact that the TomTom entry auto configures the Port Speed to 38400. In real world using a receiver at a slower or faster port speed (if it supported different speeds) would not make any observable difference.

sorry what i meant was did you use cabled nmea then installed the 5.01 update and changed to the tomtom GPS, as Darren says i would not think that you would see any major difference with what option you select as long as you select the correct com port.

the mio 168 is only 2 months old I installed tt5 and used the cable nmea gps option on com 2 and noticed it took a while to find the satalites first thing each day and could not get any signal in the house at ALL, so playing around like you do I change to gps setting to tomtom cable gps.
Now it finds the satelites quicker, and works in the house at verious points.

thats prob because you have been using it, when you first get a GPS it does take sometime to get a lock and the more you use the GPS the quicker it will get the lock.

Have you told TomTom what type of GPS you have? It's in 'Change preferences' 'GPS status' 'Configure'

Set it for 'Other cable NMEA GPS' Baud Rate 9600 & COM1

The settings for a Mio 168 running TT 5 (or) 5.1 should be

Other cable NMEA GPS

Baud Rate 4800

Serial Cable on SP2

The post above said that they where using TomTom Cable GPS, that can not be used on the Mio168, it just will not work at all, wrong baud rate, wrong COM port for the Mio 168.

A cabled GPS will work.
You can ignore the internal GPS as if it was not there.

Use com1 if you use external cabled GPS.
