Hi, completely new to this so please bear with me, I have a Compaq iPaq 3630, and have just purchased a Haicom 203e GPS to use with it, I can't get the thing set up ! I'm not sure what port to use or what to set as the driver, I'm using Tom Tom Navigator v2, but havent actually gotten as far as using that yet, just trying to get a signal to come up in GPS Status. I have tried the Haicom GPS, all the NMEA settings, also when I try to set it to use serial on com1, it says port does not exist, my other options are "com3" "IRDA Connection" "Serial on USB". Can anyone give me step by step instructions on setting this up with my ipaq ?....please ! |

With cabled GPS Mice you should normally use Serial COM 1. If the port doesn't exist it's because either the Pocket PC needs a soft reset and then plug the cable in once it's come back to the today screen, or it's because another application is tying open the com port. Do you have a keyboard ? If so, disable the driver as this can cause a problem. |

Glad it helped! You should be able to still have the driver installed, but if you go into the Start Menu and then select Stowaway to bring up the driver, there will be an enabled option and a hotsync. If you enable it, then disable the hotsync option, then uncheck the enable you will be fine even if you do a soft reset. Strangely enough it still catches me out now and again. |

Dear Dave,
Having reviewed the GPS receiver section, I have gained more insight on the wide selection of GPS "mouse" types there are. I have recently got the Haicom HI-203E "mouse" receiver as it was the cheapest in the market. As it is not included in your reviews, what do you think of it? Is it a relatively reliable receiver or does the saying "what you pay is what you get" apply here?
I appreciate your views. Thank you. _________________ Francois |

There are a huge number of GPS receivers now available, we're trying to cover as many as we can but it's a slow process Haicom is a respected brand and you should have no problems with your purchase. _________________ Darren Griffin |
