|
|
Just got a brand new TomTom700 and every time I try to backup, the progress freezes on splash.bmp. I have not altered the bmp file in any way.
My mac stops responding and the tomtom also.
Has anyone else experienced the same, might I have a faulty unit?
Thanks,
Johnny |

Are you using the TomTom software? If so, there may be some teething problems.
Why not just make a new folder on the Mac, open the TomTom as a mounted drive on the desktop, then just "select all" in the window and drag the contents to your new folder. Most of us backup with drag and drop.
It will take about 40 minutes if you have an older Mac with USB 1 or about 5 or 6 mins with a later computer with USB 2. _________________ TTGO 700 (dead)

Thanks, I was thinking about this but didn't know if it would cause a problem, as there is NO mention of it anywhere in TomTom's documentation or website...
Thanks for your help. |

Hi
I have just brought a new 700 this weekend same problem as you on backup seems to stop about 85% but the pc locks up about 4 mins later and have to restart. On looking in the folder on pc it looks like it has backed up. Are you using win98se as I am, I also have the same problem on laptop with win xp.

Since I posted my original comment in August, some nice person gave me a 700. I cannot back it up to my Apple iBook G4 running 10.4.2. I want to use the iBook because it has USB2 and the backup is reasonably quick.
I have managed to do a drag and drop backup to my Apple desktop G4 machine without problem, but it has USB1 only and the backup takes an hour.
Both machines are running the same system software, so the situation is confusing.
I tried all ways of backing up to the iBook - drag and drop, TomTom software, even one file at a time. But nothing worked.
The only physical difference is that the laptop was connected directly to the GO700, but the connection to the desktop was via a powered USB hub. I will check it out sometime. _________________ TTGO 700 (dead)

I experienced the same problems when trying to backup my TT 700.
I think it may be related to the type of USB connection used.
On Macs with USB 2.0, both the drag-and-drop backup and the TomTom software operation don't work but on Macs with USB 1, it works perfectly.
Anybody has been able to backup properly his TT700 on Macs with USB 2.0 ports? |
