hi there
i'm a new person to this site, am i supposed to get the beers in?!

Ok, so i want to do the satnav thing...i have a car and a motorbike, and would like to use it on both.
I have an iPaq 1940 which i'd like to keep please; and work has given me tom tom 5 on the understanding that i sort out the rest on my own Sad
I've heard all manner of horror stories about hardware/software incompatibilities and i WILL cry if i buy the wrong thing!
Please would someone advise me as the correct type of bluetooth gps receiver to purchase?
Many thanks
Smile

First off, mine's a pint of bitter ;) And welcome.

The 1940 wasn't a particularly great PDA, it has no serial port support so Bluetooth is the way to go for you.

Get yourself a SiRFStarIII Chipset Bluetooth GPS, GlobalSat Bt338 and Holux GPSlim are two great units worth considering.

As for mounting, you'd probably need something suich as Brodit's waterproof case with handlebar mount.

thanks for the advice - the 1940 has bluetooth, so i was planning to use that to connect to the receiver anyway.
A bike chum pointed me towards eBay for receivers - is this to be recommended?

That depends on if you value warranty and support! If not then eBay's fine.

Personally I'd pay the extra and buy direct from a dealer.
