Connecting a PDA to a GPS Receiver

Hello I need a bit of help.

I have a Toshiba E830 and just purchased Microsoft Streets & Trips (MS&T). I would like to connect the MS&T receiver to the PDA but am unsure how to do this.

My options are:

1. A simple USB cable to PDA interface ($CDN 24). I am not sure how much of the battery this will suck out of my PDA's battery life? Furthermore it is not ideal in terms of portability.

2. Using a pharos cradle with a built in battery advertised as lasting 6 hours. ($CDN 124) and connecting to the PDA via blue-tooth. The blue tooth connectivity may also sap my PDA battery.

Any thoughts on this?
