I was all set to go and purchase the slimline 236 when I found on this board that it has problems with getting a fix on start up especially when moving slowly.

Is this a general problem seen by everyone or only a certain batch?
What is real life battery life like? Do you get 10 hours?

Would you purchase this receiver agian or go for something else. My other choice was the Globalsat 338 but it being more expensive swung me in favour of the slimline 236. Would I be making a mistake buying the 236?

I have had one these units for about 3 months now and it's the best thing since sliced bread. I have mine sitting in the car always on and if I come out of a covered parking lot it usually only takes 10-20 seconds to get a fix. The battery life when I have used it without being plugged in would be about 10hrs, it's very good. The unit is nice a small and I'm sure you won't regret buying one.

If you need a longer battery life you might want to have a look at one of these:

http://www.buygpsnow.com/item.aspx?itemid=474 or
http://www.buygpsnow.com/item.aspx?itemid=510

Both have longer life battery's of about 17hrs and also have the SirfIII chipset.

Thanks for the reply. I live in Portugal so he other two you suggested aren't available here. The globalsat is available here but for some reason $50 more expensive. I'll get the slim 236. 10hrs battery is enough for me anyway. I wouldn't do more than 10hrs straight driving anyway.
