TT2 hangs on start-up if the maps are stored on the SD card (128Mb). I have to soft-reset to clear the lock.

If I store a 16Mb map on the Axim's internal memory, it works fine, but obviously this isn't an ideal solution as the 16Mb coverage is small.

Have I a dud SD card? I've read of others having similar problems on this forum so I don't want to go out and buy another SD card to find that the problem recurs. Would a CF card be better?

I'm running TT2 v. 2.22 and the latest Axim ROM revision.

Sounds like a typical Axim / SD type issue. Have a look at the web site of Jon C for more information. Jon, as Happycheesecake, has been the leading light in posting information about this on the Dell Forums. He and I have spoken on the phone at length, so I'm well aware of just how much effort he's put into this.

Jon's recommendation would be, I'm sure, to buy a SimpleTech SD card. SimpleTech have pretty much promised that all their cards will work fine on the Axim X5, and I don't believe Jon is aware of any duff ones. They're all either Hitachi or Toshiba controller cards, it seems, both of which are fine on the Axim.

The cheapest source of SimpleTech SD cards in the UK is usually ebuyer.com - search for "SimpleTech SD" (without the quotes). At the moment, they are out of stock of 256 and 512MB - but they have 128MB in stock. (To see out of stock items, click the link to display all results, then choose 'All items' and press the Filter Search button).

If you want a little USB SD card reader with your SimpleTech SD card for a little extra money, search instead for Bonzai (though only 64MB and 512MB are currently in stock at ebuyer.com).

You could use CF memory - but that then means your CF slot is unavailable for the myriad of other gadgets available as CF cards. On the Axim X5, the SD slot is for memory only (no SDIO support), so it seems best to use it for memory.

Hi Footsie,

I too have the Axim and TT2 package, so my CF slot is free to use as memory, if you too can use this I would recomend doing so as stated by DavidW there has been many issues with SD cards/format/type being used with the Axim. I am using 128m Integral CF card with the UK map on with no problems at all, and have also tried my 512m Ridata and 512m Dane-Elec, which also work perfectly.

Best regards David

Many thanks to the Davids!

I've checked out Jon C's site, and sure enough my SD card fits into his category of expected "won't work" cards. I'll see if I can get hold of a SimpleTech card, as I really need to keep the CF slot free if at all possible.

Thanks again guys.
