The new HP Ipaq 6515 looks 'the dogs'

Built-in GPS receiver, mobile phone, 1.3 megapixel camera. 2 card slots - you name it ... and only £439!

I've been using an XDAII for the last 12months & have had no problems running TT3 or TT5 (used a wired TT & now a BT-338 GPS Receiver). The other PDA functions are also impressive & the customer support from O2 has also been good.

You need to consider if you want an integrated keyboard, weight & other dimensions as well into your choice selection.

I have the Ipaq 6340 PDA - has quad band phone bluetooth and Wifi (the 6515 somebody else recomended does not have Wifi but does have a sat nav receiver). These all work together very well with TT5.

I am also using a Parrot 3300 combined BT car kit and sat nav receiver and this works well with the Ipaq. Whenever I get route instructions from TT the radio mutes and voice goes through the audio system, so can change volume using radio or controls on steering wheel. Also if phone rings it takes precedence over TT, which continues to work in the background and comes back when I hang up phone. All in all I would recomend this combination

I know somebody with one of these and he is not a happy bunny. The problem with the palm os system he tells me is that it can't multitask bluetooth. It can only be paired to one BT device at a time. So his Treo can either speak to his car phone kit using BT or speak to the sat nav receiver using BT but not both at the same time. The result is that when he is using sat nav he can't use his car phone kit. If he wants to he has to switch off sat nav in order to use the phone handsfree. Not exactly user friendly.

Not quite true, it's not a problem with the PalmOS but the version of Bluetooth used. The Treo 650 has Bluetooth v1.1 and this indeed only supports one BT device at a time. You'll have the same problem with any other device/OS which uses BT v1.1. BT v1.2 supports multiple devices at the same time, obviously both the PDA and devices would need to be using v1.2 for this to work.

The 5.12 update to TTN5 apparently makes switching between BT devices a lot better, haven't tried with mine yet so can't confirm this.

Despite this I still wouldn't swap my Treo for any other PDA/Smartphone :D

Interesting points. The guy I was talking about is an electronic engineer that specialises in mobile systems and he was blamimg the palm OS system and not the treo. My Ipaq running standard MS PPC multitasks - I don't know what Bluetooth version it runs but it works.

The point about TT5.12 switching is not helpful if both the sat nav and the phone kit are BT but your PDA can only talk to one at a time. You (or your phone) still has to switch one off to use the other. In fact I use TT5 with my Ipaq/Parrot 3300 combination and they multitask and switch between those tasks automatically. When I am using the sat nav the phone is still on handfree BT in the background. When anyone calls it comes to the foreground and the sat nav continues in the background.

Having said that the person I know still, like you, prefers his Treo to a PPC based PDA. He is now waiting for an update (he says of the Palm OS system) so that it can multitask. A bit like the Apple v PC debate - each to his own preference!

So far all I can say is fantastic. It seems to have a template to store your contact addresses in a format tomtom can easily display in map and navigate to, to gps receiver locks on quicker than a whippet. It connects up to my parrott ck3100 for phone functions no worries, not tried it for calls yet though!

Now for the downsides>

Initially I thought is was a little bulky as a phone but it is growing on me.
It won't transfer gps audio to my car kit :x
It doesn't come with the full tomtom kit, which is no problem you can uograde to 5.1 for free but you need to buy maps, which I think are 129 euros. this includes MOWE and the actual tomtom program on disc so you can't complain really.

Will give it some test over the weekend and post a roundup of what I think.

Check out this link for info I posted some last week on combining two phones into a single device - I got fed up with company mobile, personal mobile, PDA etc so I switched over to the O2XDAIIs, not without its problems to start with, but if I were to change the unit I would have another one given the chance - Mike
