No, this will not help. The thief will just continue to use the current software version, or do a backup themselves before trying a software upgrade.

(Why are these sites always talking about firmware? It's not firmware for crying out loud. It's an application)

I have phone number, postcode along with screenshot of my car with Number Plate showing on my unit (thanks to Fatmanscoop) but as you say thief will use as is.

I must go to bed, if she says one more time "are you making a cup of tea" I will run into the bedroom and push a pillow on her FACE & hold it there for at least a week.(slight exaggeration, 24 hours should do it)
