help setting up gps plz

Hi
just bought a new acer n30, have installed tomtom 5, on it to use with a bt77 gps reciever,the acer recognises the reciever and can connect with it but when i go to tt5 it tells me there is no gps device, also when i look at my connection status it tells me i am connected, but there are no bytes sent or recieved, getting a bit frustrated now, hope some of you guys can help.

thank you very much steven, after so many wasted hours trying to set it up,within 24hours of posting on p.g.w ive finally got it up and running. once again thanks very much steven, a genius.
