Disable power management when SmartST is running

first post here, was wondering if anyone knows how to disable the power management when i'm running a program e.g. smartst? my pda (navman pin 100 / mitac mio 168) has 2 options, always-on or sleep-after-x-minutes. the latter option is great except for when i'm being navigated around by smartst, 3 minutes into my trip it turns itself off :x Recently i've been using the always-on mode, however there have now been a number of times where i've gone to use my pda and found that the battery is totally flat and it requires restoring from backup. (accidentally powered on while i wasn't using it)

ideally what i'd want is a program or other modification that i can do so that i can set the pda in sleep-after-x-minutes mode, but have that feature disabled while smartst is running. is there anything like this?

another option, which is the other way around, is to have the pda in always-on mode, and then have a dialog pop up on screen everytime the pda is turned on, prompting me whether i actually meant to turn it on, and then turns itself off after a while if it doesn't get a response.
