Routing & lat/long queries

Hi there, newbie here..

just got nuvi 300 and very pleased with it so far, although the route preferences aren't very comprehensive and took me the weirdest almost 'offroad' route to get home! Any way to refine these?

Also have just downloaded the Camera database (it said it downloaded 7500 items!) but haven't tried it on the road yet.

A question - in my naiveness I thought that a GPS system would actually give you a lat/long reading somewhere, or is that only the ones for hill walkers?

If you want to create your own POI, where would you get the decimal lat/long numbers you need?

Sorry if I'm being thick...

Another 'damn fool' question -

How/when can you get updates to the City Navigator Europe NT+ V8 for UK & Ireland which came pre-loaded?

One of my local roads recently had a major overhall, and the Nuvi still thinks there is a roundabout but it's now a big intersection..?
