TT5 Bugs encountered

Dell Axim3, Wired GPS mouse, 1G SD card, GB plus maps.

POI warnings
TT5 stalling for 3/5 seconds or completely freezing when triggered
by POI warning about speed cameras. This problem does not
always occur but when it does happen it is likely that it will be the
same camera location(s) that have problems. Although the display
will show the warning on the screen the audio warning may be
missing. The problems can also be seen in demo mode without the
GPS connected. In the case of the total freeze when encountering a
Pocketgpsworld camera changing the 'Warn only if POI is on route'
setting to be being selected stops the freeze. Perhaps TT5 cannot
cope with a larger POI warning area (narrow angle of forward look
ahead gives minor problems, wide angle of look ahead gives major
problems)? I have only 8 POI categories being used.

TT5 reports backward movement
When travelling forward on a mainly straight road at a constant
speed TT5 will show the car going backwards for a few seconds.
The erroneous backwards movement is very smooth so I wonder if
it is to do with the algorithm TT uses to produce the so called
smooth scrolling is recovering after first predicting a forward route
too far ahead and then getting a real position from the GPS. The
distance that the car is apparently travelling backwards is quite
large.

Map rotation
The map rotating when stationary also occurs to a lesser extent
when crawling along in traffic jams, even when travelling along a
straight road. In general, TT5 seems to have problems when the
distance travelled is very small between GPS updates. Has anyone
used it for walking a route to see if it has the same type of
behaviour?

Finding GPS
When placing the PDA in the car cradle and then switching on TT5
the wired GPS mouse will not always be found and a PDA reset is
required. The time TT5 takes to find the GPS unit is a lot longer
than that taken by TT3.

Potentially dangerous voice instructions
The TT5 voice instructions will say something like "Take the
second exit and then do a U turn" with no gap between messages.
The 'U turn' will be on the roundabout 600 yards ahead and not the
gap in the dual carriageway central reservation 200 yards after the
roundabout.
TT5 has on one occasion said keep right on a road with no turnings
which would result in driving on the wrong side of the road!

Incorrect instructions to leave a main road.
TT3 would say take the next exit.
TT5 will sometimes just say keep left.
To me, keep left means stay on the multi-lane road or motorway
you are travelling on but keep to the left hand lane. The display will
show the route is off the main road or motorway but how may
people are watching the road rather than the screen?

Interesting observations, I will be using vs5 from next week - but its nice to know what to look out for before it catches you out - I have also had problems getting gps to work - the delay was the primary problem - I thought it wasn't working, so tried other settings - don't like the gps set-up, yes its easier than vs3 but does not seem as flexible or logical - I have set it up for wired gps even though I am using a bluetooth device, this seems to be the only way it will work on my XDAIIs, will try the ipaq-4700 next - mike
